Only by the night- Kings of leon

Back from a year of I guess, chilling out and recording, Kings of Leon have yet again amazed me with a new album, Only by the Night. They’ve cut off their lochs and stopped dressing like a 70’s tribute band, because of this some people have accused them of “selling out”. I think this album is definitely a perfect two fingers up at those haters! With a track like “Cold Desert” on the record, which Caleb Followill admits not remembering recording, you feel almost obliged to fall in love.

There are some amazing tracks on the record, but I have to say that none of them explode with such emotion as this one. Perhaps it was the way it was recorded, but it is music in its truest form. His vocals on this track are definitely not up to standards in comparisons with the world’s greats, but with lyrics like “I’m too young to feel this old”, you can really feel the spontaneous composition and despite him being VERY drunk whilst recording, he executes his feelings VERY well.

Whether you’re into Indie-Electro or Norwegian Death Metal, I think you’d find yourself pretty much hypnotised by their raw passion and undeniable talent. There isn’t a track on the album that I could consider boring, because it is their pounding bass lines, and of course Caleb’s seductive voice that emphasises each track.

The album has already landed them shows at the famous Wembley Stadium and even rumours of headlining Reading & Leeds festival in 2009. Breaking records for selling out Wembley Stadium faster than Led Zeppelin, they really have got something to smile about, and reading about their album sales I’m guessing they’ll be smiling all the way to the bank too.

You’d think they’d be floating on air by now, but these boys are fantastic in the fact that they know where they came from and only by watching their hilarious home videos on the KOL YouTube channel, you can tell that they are just well ground Tennessee lads. Three brothers, a first cousin and a shit load of the talent. Let’s face it, their not too bad to look at either. The Followill gene pool certainly is magical.

Are you kidding me?!?!?! It’s their least inspiring and most boring record. I’ve been a KOL ever since YaYM and I seriously am NOT a whiney indie poster kid, so I’m not gonna say anything about selling out or whatever BUT THIS ALBUM SUCKS. Whoever wrote this “review” knows as much about music as Karl Lagerfeld knows about cooking.

I must agree, I have listened to a couple of songs of the album and I really think it sucks as much as the rest of the music that is put out today. Apart from a few exceptions, the rest is plain old crap.
