MAG RAG VOL X: VOGUE PARIS
Hey boys and girls, welcome to the 10th edition of “MAG RACK”. For this special occasion (and because I am totally broke and therefore not able to get magazines other than the ones I am subscribed to…), I have decided to finally present you my favourite magazine of all times: The Parisian edition of VOGUE.
ORIGIN: Well, VOGUE is actually an American magazine, founded in New York in 1892 (I suppose one can really call it the mother of all magazines). However, this article focuses on the Parisian version of VOGUE. Guess you can figure out yourself where it’s from…
LANGUAGE: French. Duh.
CONTENT: Some of you may think that VOGUE is an old-fashioned and ultra-conservative magazine for rich old women. You know what? You are so incredibly wrong!! VOGUE PARIS, under the direction of Carine Roitfeld, is probably the most open-minded, fashion-forward and innovative magazine you will be able to find in your newsstand. At VOGUE PARIS, they are able to do all the things many other magazines are not supposed to do: feature a lot of cigarettes and alcohol in their editorials, show boobs en masse etc. VOGUE always features the crème de la crème of photographers (Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, Terry Richardson, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodt Matadin are regulars), models and designers (apart from featuring the real big players, VOGUE has always been supportive of young designers and recently they also started to feature more and more vintage clothes). The editors all have a good sense for aesthetics and even though many of the pictures are highly erotic, they are never vulgar.
VOGUE PARIS also features some quality book/music/theater/movie-reviews, interviews with all sorts of artists, the very latest news from the cosmetics industry,… This list could be continued for ages.
ERGO: Carine Roitfeld and her team just manage to create a magazine which is full of new surprises every month. Their editorials are amazing, their style is often copied but never equalled. It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak French; you should have a look at this edition of VOGUE at least once. After all, it’s mainly the pictures that count anyways… To cut a long story short: In my humble opionion, VOGUE PARIS is the best magazine EVER and therefore deserves 10 out of 10 points.

sounds really good
is there anyway to get it without actually going to paris?
yeah you can get it in most international book- and magazine stores. like in big train stations etc. it’s even available in linz, the crappy town i am originally from, so that means you should be able to get it in any other town in the world as well
oh ok cool thanks! i’m going to attempt to understand it with only 3 years learning french at school haha
[...] huh?) and somewhat cute!! Whereas a lot of other magazines attempt to become just as cool as VOGUE or i-D, for instance, and therefore feature some pretentious stuff that nobody actually cares about [...]
