New York Fashion Week – Farewell blog

The best, the worst and the parties I missed.

It was a Fashion Week during the biggest economic crises since the great depression. So the feeling was a bit laid back but most of the new collections were very glamorous and some we´ve seen included some outstanding things.  So let´s get started with a rundown of some best (without a special ranking) and the worst moments caught by the Blogoshphere.

Best moments

Rodarte by Fashionologie
The inspiration was photographer Ari Marcopoulos, but when you get down to it, the collection is just another evolution of the Rodarte aesthetic that has been in place for a few seasons now: a collage of textured, hand-stitched, wearable art. There weren’t any long, flowy dresses this time, just short, semi-structured minidresses;

The collection had a dark, romantic feel with a seductive quality to the designs. The dramatic gowns, and dresses were show stopping. I loved his version of the exaggerated shoulders, and the ombre suits, and the gowns were spectacular.

The pieces were tailored, sleek and sexy with assymetry and sculptural details. Black, white and charcoal with bright orange, pink and neon yellow popping up on occassion.

Vivienne Tam by the Daily Obession
Vivienne Tam instead expressed the concept of nothingness by literally incorporating the Chinese character into her pieces: the character appeared in chiffon cutouts, which fluttered delicately on blouses and dresses, screenprinted on silk, and on braided appliqués.

Worst moment

Richie Rich by jetsetgirls
Pam Anderson made the final walk with Richie Rich, only we thought she was an impersonator. Sorry Pam!

And what about the parties?

I was at few one but most of them were a bit boring.  So what did I miss?
There was a great bash made by the lovely Jennine from The Coveted. She invited the Independent Fashion Bloggers for a dress up soiree (coming up in London, tomorrow). Loads of pictures are here.

Erin Fetherston invited to the Rose Bar. The likes of Leigh Lezark, Zoe Kravitz and many more showed up to celebrate her sucess and i´m sad that i wasn´t there. Anyone who wanna Invites me next time?

Over all, it was a great time, standing outside the tents, chatting with people and attending my first fashion show, The Diesel Black Gold. It was a pleasure to be your host and guide through the Fall Winter 09/10 New York Fashion Week. See you next time:)
