Make – Up for brighter days

Apart from new clothes, a new season also brings new make-up.

Fashion shows are not only about fashion, they are also about make-up. It’s always exciting to see the – sometimes crazy, sometimes elegant – ideas the designers, and especially the make-up artists, have had.

During the Spring/Summer 09 Prêt-à-Porter shows, eyebrows played a quite important role, and the big question was: BLACK OR WHITE? Because whereas the previous seasons were dominated by very bald and very dark eyebrows (à la Carine Roitfeld), very light and almost invisible eyebrows are the next hot shit.

However, it is hard to tell whether this trend is going to set foot in the real world. After all, the risk that bleached eyebrows make you look like a freaking albino, especially when you have blond hair, is rather high.

Anyways, a trend everybody can easily adapt is the so called NUDE LOOK. Nude make-up is a timeless classic and is appropriate for any occasion. This season, many designers choose to use an understatement-make-up and to bring the clothes into focus as much as possible. BTW: I know it’s kind of mean, but isn’t it nice to see that even supergeorgeous Lily Donalson has dark shadows underneath her eyes?

But of course, as we are talking about spring and summer here, the seasons of flowers, sunshine, sea and beaches, colourful make-up was a big deal as well. Some designers choose the motto “THE BRIGHTER, THE BETTER!”

The Galliano-Look is obviously “a little bit” too much for everyday use – unless you earn your money as a clown on children’s birthday parties. However, the golden touch on lips and eyes is a very interesting eye-catcher! Love! On the other hand, the turquoise of the Gucci look is almost as timeless as the Nude Look and comes back EVERY summer. At the very 80’s-inspired Gucci show, it was worn all over the eye, which might look freaking tacky in real life. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
