Alice Dellal…Originality..?
She shaves off the side of her hair, many, ‘I’m an individual’ kids trot off to the hair-dressers, hold a picture of Alice and hey presto- they feel different. But how exactly, is that different. It’s still copying, is it not?

Okay, so they might not have followed the drones of A&F whores into Jack Wills and the like, but by seeing something, liking it and then recreating it follows the same idea.
And that’s the problem with fashion at the moment. No one can really come up with THAT groundbreaking idea, so everyone looks to past trends for inspiration. What happened to the days when a designer would create something that literally blew everyone away. Take McQueen’s ‘Highland rape.‘ When he first showcased his collection in March ‘95, the fashion industry and fashionistas alike, were divided completely with such a controversial, well.. name, amongst, of course, a vast collection of ripped lace dresses and skirts with, it appeared, tampon strings attached.
What has happened to the days when people were excited to see the amazing creations, both in clothing and in sets, that Vivienne Westwood and Galliano would come up with. Fashion used to be art. A way of describing yourself without using words. It still excites. Fashion is defiantly exciting, but why do we feel the need to look back to the 1980’s to create something ‘new.‘
A new decade should bring a whole new wave of ideas to play with. A whole new style to discover, initially hate, and then fill your wardrobe with….
