Remember Franz Ferdinand? With their current try to meet electronic music called “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand”, they failed. Not in a economic way, ´cause they´ve sold shitloads of records in the whole world with really good figures. But in a musical way, “Tonight…” isn´t more than a first step into an unexplored area.
Anyway. Let´s talk about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which are also famous to hook up with disco and electronic sounds to create a monster. A hand-tame one, because with “Zero” they start into their new era with a punch into your face. Nobody did expected that from Karen O and her mates.
So it´s a good choice for a single as well for an opener. And what´s next? The Journey goes on with another proper one called “Heads will roll”. Without any doubt, the kick off is a good one and after “Soft Shock”, it´s time for a big epic anthem called “Skeletons”. This song is made to fell in love with him including bagpipes (!) who invites you to fly over the green hills of Ireland or Scottland. This could become a classic YYYs over the years.
Apropos classic YYYs. For all fans out there who think that it´s over and you will never hear Show your Bones or Fever to be assured again: Don´t worry. “It´s Blitz” is also a collection of familiar things except the kick ass garage rock. It´s more an atmospheric journey, Karen O sounds at her best and it will lead probably the right direction for the future of these three New Yorkers.
So did they prevail? Well, that is a tough question. With a first listen on “It´s Blitz”, probably they didn´t. Because according their guitar player Nick Zimmer, “It´s Blitz” should have dropped the guitars down. But they are still dominating and we will see what will happen with them on their 4th album. Expect the unexpected.
